Overview
The Centre for Contemporary Economics at RV University aims to promote an intellectual milieu that supports critical and creative thinking in the domain of Economics and development. The Centre aspires to work towards enhancing understanding of various pertinent issues by adopting a pluralist approach, pertaining to various economic, political, and social aspects. This becomes crucial as much of the economic orthodoxy and market fundamentalism have been unable to tackle development issues of underdeveloped economies. Further, the growing challenges of socio-economic inequalities and climate change increasingly warrant us to adopt a fresh approach in understanding, comprehending and dealing with various contemporary issues, thereby aiming to contribute significantly towards policy.

The talk by Dr.Gopakumar introduced the audience to Matching markets. Matching markets are economic markets where two or more groups of agents are matched together based on their preference. These markets are common in different area of life including education, health care, employment and dating. The lecture provided an overview of the pioneering work by Gale and Shapley (1982) as well as Shapley and Scarf (1974) along with real life examples. The talk was followed by an interactive question and answer session which dealt with the methodological aspects of the exercise and the utility of such an exercise in real life scenarios. The session was moderated by the third year undergraduate student Ms. Sharia. The talk was attended by the faculty from the Economics school and all the students.
